Barbecue Tempeh

Ingredients by volume:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 12 oz tempeh
  • 6 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp tamari (or regular soy sauce if gluten is okay)
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Ingredients by weight:

  • 13 g olive oil
  • 340 g tempeh
  • 120 g maple syrup
  • 34 g tamari (or regular soy sauce if gluten is okay)
  • 6 g smoked paprika
  • 2.3 g ground black pepper


  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat while you cut the tempeh into squares or triangles.
  • Add the maple syrup, tamari, smoked paprika, and black pepper to the pan and stir until combined, about 1 minute.
  • Add the tempeh and cook, flipping/stirring periodically to make sure it's evenly coated with sauce, until the sauce is fully absorbed - about 10 minutes.
